Tim Atkin:

This is a village wine from Lerga, a town across the mountains from San Martín de Unx facing north, instead of south towards Olite. Very few old vines remain but thankfully Zorzal has focused its attentions here and has produced a unique wine fermented in concrete followed by two years in French 500L barrels. It is full of intense black fruit, blackberry and dates with monte bajo and dark chocolate notes, as well as all the freshness of this special zone. With a savoury finish, this is a very complete and complex wine. 2024-31

The Wine Advocate:

The new Garnacha from the village of Lerga, the 2021 Golerga was produced with grapes that in the past were made into rosé or blended with grapes from elsewhere. They produced a fine red to find the character of this historical place, cooler and with mountain character, sous bois and an earthy twist. The vines are at around 600 meters above sea level. This is a zone with more rain, altitude and latitude, so one of the coolest places for Garnacha, for sure in Navarra and possibly in the world, where they pick the grapes late, after they pick the Gracianos from the south. The grapes ripened thoroughly, developing full aromas and flavors, and the wine reached 14.4% alcohol and kept very healthy freshness and acidity and chalky tannins. The grapes from five small plots were transported by refrigerated truck to their winery in Corella (about one hour), fermented by plot in stainless steel and concrete and matured in concrete and 500-liter French oak barrels. 7,066 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2023. This is the second vintage of this wine.
