The top of the range in red is the 2011 Capitán Fanegas Grand Terroir, produced with Tempranillo from a vineyard planted in 1999 and with 7% Graciano from a vineyard planted in 1970. It fermented in open-top 500-liter oak casks with indigenous yeasts and manual treading and then was put into second use barriques for malolactic and 28 months of aging. It was racked every six months. It felt a little backward and closed, fresh and young for its age and without any symptoms of heat. It slowly opened up to notes of earth, iron and dusty cherries, with the oak nicely folded into the wine. The palate was medium-bodied, with some dusty tannins and a chalky, dry finish. The notes of iron and beef blood increased as the wine breathed, 1,987 bottles and some larger formats were filled in May 2016. - Luis Gutiérrez.
"Dark berries, plums and baking spices on the nose with plenty of ripe fruit. Slightly dried plum flavors build amid dark chocolate on the palate. Slow burning finish. Needs time. Drink from 2022".
Airear antes
