Descripción

Un clásico de la denominación Saint Julien, bien definido y con personalidad. La poderosa elegancia de la Cabernet sauvignon determina el carácter de este vino que en anteriores añadas se ha presentado como un tinto serio, lleno de fruta negra, grafito y ahumados. Este vino fue catado en barrica por Neil Martin, quien le otorgó un rango de 92-94 puntos Parker. La publicación Wine Spectator lo califica con un rango de 94-97 puntos para esta gran añada 2016.

Cosecha
Vendimia 100% manual. Realizada del 28 de septiembre al 19 de octubre.
Vinificación
Fermentación en tanques de acero inoxidable cuyo tamaño se adapta a las características determinadas de las distintas parcelas del viñedo. El vino es fruto de una fermentación controlada a una temperatura entre 26 y 28ºC. La maceración suele durar unas 3 semanas, aunque siempre dependiendo de las necesidades de cada depósito. El “blending” se lleva a cabo, por lo general, antes del finales del mes de febrero siguiente a la cosecha.
Envejecimiento
Envejecimiento en barricas de roble previsto durante un periodo que oscila desde los 16 a los 20 meses con un 60-65% de roble nuevo. Tostado ligero de las barricas para respetar la potencia frutal del vino.

"The 2016 Branaire-Ducru is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc picked from 28 September until 19 October at 50 hectoliters per hectare, one of the longest harvest periods at the estate. The nose is quite intense with black fruit infused with pencil shaving and a touch of tobacco, unashamedly classic in style, a little distant compared to some other Saint Juliens but undeniably well defined and full of character. The palate is structured and masculine, exerting a firm grip in the mouth, spicier than its peers with cracked black pepper complementing the black fruit, tobacco and smoke towards the structured finish. There is great length here, very persistent in the mouth, a little "rougher" in texture than others, but that will be smoothed out during élevage and in bottle. Give this Branaire-Ducru five or six years in bottle because it has great potential, one of the best produced at the estate in recent years. (NB This sample was taken from a new barrel, though the final blend will be 60%.)"

Barrel Sample. Superbly ripe and juicy, this is a solid, powerful wine that also is packed with black currant fruits. It is richly structured, concentrated and ready for long-term aging.

The 2016 Château Branaire-Ducru checks in as a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, and the rest Cabernet Franc. This medium to full-bodied, downright pretty Saint-Julien has a complex, layered style in its mulberries, blackberries, saddle leather, and forest floor aromatics, with hints of graphite developing with time in the glass. Possessing terrific tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish, I’d certainly be happy to have bottles of this in the cellar. Give it a few years and it promises to shine for 20-25 years.
