Quinto Cru Classé de Pauillac que en 2021 inició una nueva etapa liderada por la enóloga Lucie Lauilhé como directora técnica de la casa. Su mano se deja sentir en una mayor precisión en la elaboración. Las primeras catas de la añada 2023 revelan un tinto muy fragante, con vivas notas florales, mentoladas y herbáceas y gran suavidad, frescura y elegancia. 

La entrega de este vino está prevista entre los meses de septiembre de 2025 y marzo de 2026.

De color rojo oscuro e intenso con un color carmesí.
Nariz
Libera aromas de frutas rojas acompañadas de ligeras y sutiles notas florales, así como delicados toques dulces que combinan armoniosamente con la cereza negra.
Boca
Suave y preciso, revela taninos refinados y elegantes junto con frescura y un hermoso equilibrio. Esa impresión persiste, acompañada de agradables notas de especias y pimienta y de frutas maduras que persisten en el final.
Temperatura de servicio
Entre 16 y 18ºC.
Maridaje
Perfecto con carnes al horno, cocidos y estofado; así como con guisos, pastas y legumbres.

Clima
El invierno de 2023 fue suave y lluvioso recargando las reservas hídricas del suelo y favoreciendo el crecimiento de la vid para lo que vino después: uno de los años más cálidos jamás registrados, con una floración perfecta a finales de mayo y un rápido desarrollo de las cepas. Se registraron dos olas de calor a finales de agosto y principios de septiembre que marcaron el inicio de la cosecha.
Cosecha
Vendimia manual llevada a cabo del 7 al 30 de septiembre. Durante ésta, se sucedieron días calurosos y soleados con otros tormentosos, permitiendo que las uvas ganaran en madurez. La última semana de septiembre trajo sol de verano para concluir la cosecha en buenas condiciones.
Envejecimiento
Crianza prevista de 18 meses en barricas de roble francés, el 50% nuevas.

Opinión de los críticos

Decanter:

Gorgeous fragrance, so floral and alive on the nose, minty and herbal as well as full of violet and cherry elements. Smells quite intense but fresh too. Bright and in focus, streamlined with a racy core - bright acidity and fine tannins, very harmonious if still strict and focussed. It’s full and balanced in its own way with good structure and persistence from start to finish. Sleek, tangy, taut, I like the soft power, the slightly grippy tannins and the freshness throughout. Leaves a bitter grapefruit orange skin tang on the finish. Highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. 62 IPT. 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

James Suckling:

There’s a powdery and open texture to this red. Full-bodied and layered with a pretty and weightless texture. Blackcurrants and blueberries and an orange-peel undertone. Velvety texture at the end. 70% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot, 13% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot.

Including slightly more Cabernet Sauvignon than usual, the 2023 Château D'Armailhac is based on 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, aging in 50% new oak. It's a ripe, medium to full-bodied, spicy, impressive Pauillac that has both red and black fruits, ripe, round, velvety tannins, the fresher, vibrant style of the vintage, and some classy tobacco and lead pencil aromatics. It's going to need at least 4-5 years of bottle age to come together, but it’s beautiful wine in the making. The alcohol is 13.5%, and it has a pH of 3.75.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2023 d'Armailhac is an attractive effort, bursting with aromas of cherries, raspberries, licorice and cigar wrapper. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, with a pretty core of fruit, sweet powdery tannins and lively acids, it's a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot—which is a rather high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon for this address.
