Descripción

Adquirido en el año 2000 por Jean-Jacques Frey, la propiedad está dirigida actualmente por su hija Caroline Frey, enóloga de la Escuela de Enología de Burdeos y la mejor de su promoción. Ésta conoció a Denis Dubourdieu, y tras dos vendimias entró por la puerta pequeña de la bodega para empaparse de todas las áreas. En 2004, con tan solo 25 años, tomó las riendas de La Lagune, el Grand Cru Classé que aúna la finura de Graves con la fuerza de Haut-Médoc. Esta añada 2023, que destaca por no incluir en su coupage Petit verdot, se caracteriza, en las primeras muestras, por una nariz vibrante y muy expresiva con aromas a moras, fresas y arándanos y matices herbáceos y una marcada acidez que le augura una larga guarda. 

La entrega de este vino está prevista entre los meses de septiembre de 2025 y marzo de 2026.

Vinificación
Fermentación en depósitos de acero inoxidable con control de temperatura. Vinificación y crianza en barricas siguiendo el método tradicional con un 1% de vino de primera prensa.
Envejecimiento
Crianza prevista de 18 meses en barricas de robles francés, el 50% nuevas.
Embotellado
Crianza de 18 meses, 50% roble nuevo.

Opinión de los críticos

James Suckling:

A subtle yet plush La Lagune with black olives, blackberries and hints of chocolate and hazelnut. Medium body with fine, polished tannins and a savory finish. There's a crunchy feel to it and it’s layered and deep at the end. 65% cabernet sauvignon and 35% merlot. No petit verdot.

Decanter:

Dark nose, really quite vivid and vibrant, lots of blackberries and some herbal markers. Beautifully fragrant, smells so expressive and really ripe. Smooth and clean, a lovely crisp texture to this with super fine tannins that coat the mouth in a soft chalkiness with really high menthol, herbal Cabernet markers. Although this has a tight core with a focussed line from start to finish it’s not austere or too serious. Finessed and detailed, strawberries, cranberries and blackcurrants, a real mixture of ripe fruit and cool freshness. Very drinkable with delicate fruit and high acidity. This will age extremely well. No Petit Verdot in the blend this year. 18 months ageing, 50% new oak. 3.75pH. 1% press wine. Two thirds grand vin production. A yield of 30-35hl/ha.

Bettane & Desseauve:

Forte couleur, très plein, mais avec un tannin qui a besoin de temps pour se fondre. Cela viendra avec l’élevage.

Falstaff:

Dark ruby colour, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Fresh cherries, fine cassis, inviting wild berries, attractive bouquet. Juicy, elegant, ripe cherry fruit, fine fruitiness, round tannins, good freshness, remains persistent, mineral, with good prospects.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2023 La Lagune, a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, reveals bright aromas of dark wild berries, flowers, cassis and spices. Medium-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a perfectly balanced mid-palate, it’s elegant and charming with an ethereal, fruity finish. This is an excellent rendition of this terroir.
