Izar-Leku Brut Vintage 2015

The 2015 Izar-Leku is a sparkling wine produced with Hondarribi Zuri, the white Txakoli grape. As the wine has lots of high acidity they decided to make it sparkling. The base wine was with the lees for one year, one third in oak barrels and then put to referment in bottle where it was kept for 18 months. Eventually they'd like to keep the base wine in barrel with lees for almost one year and two years in bottle. No sugar was added and it's bone dry. It has a clean nose, with some yeasty notes but with the salinity of Txakoli. It's super tasty, with depth and complexity, quite surprising for such a young wine, sharp and long. What makes it stand apart from the majority of sparkling wines is the salinity. Really surprising! 13,000 bottles produced.
This has attractive, fresh, flinty aromas with lemons and apples, as well as some lees influence. The palate has a great deal of finesse and genuine depth. Supple texture and soft, fluid and fresh, crisp appeal. Some praline to close. Around 10% reserve wine is used and the base is aged in barrel for between six and twelve months, then 30 months in bottle. A blend of Hondarrabi Zuri (92%) and Hondarrabi Beltza (8%). Very good sparkling. This is their first release.
