Descripción

Le Petit Mouton es el segundo vino de Château Mouton Rothschild. Cosechado, vinificado y criado como su gran hermano mayor pero más asequible al tener su origen en las viñas más jóvenes de la propiedad. Toma su nombre de la residencia de la baronesa Philippine de Rothschild, en el corazón del domaine.

Vista
De un color rojo intenso con tonalidades carmesí.
Nariz
Compleja, revela aromas de frutas negras como grosella, chocolate y granos de café tostados.
Boca
Vino fresco con sensaciones a frutas rojas y tostados respaldadas por taninos crujientes pero sedosos con un toque de regaliz, culminando en un final atractivo y largo.
Temperatura de servicio
Se recomienda servir a 16 °C.
Consumo
Hasta 2045, aproximadamente, si se conserva en óptimas condiciones.

Viñedo y elaboración

Clima
2019 comenzó con un invierno más cálido y seco de lo habitual, alcanzando temperaturas récord de 24,7 °C el 27 de febrero. El resto del año se caracterizó por un tiempo suave, solo alterado por una primavera más fresca y temperaturas inferiores a la media, si bien no afectó a la floración. Al igual que tampoco lo hicieron en junio la ola de frío tardía y fuertes lluvias que dieron paso a una ola de calor temprana. El verano fue especialmente soleado y caluroso, dejando las vides en perfecto estado en vísperas de la vendimia.
Cosecha
La vendimia manual de las variedades tintas en Château Mouton Rothschild se realizó entre el 18 de septiembre y el 5 de octubre. Aunque cayeron algunas gotas de lluvia durante la cosecha, las condiciones en general fueron muy buenas, lo que garantizó uvas de excelente calidad propiciando vinos muy ricos, de color intenso y con buen contenido de alcohol.

Opinión de los críticos

James Suckling:

A luscious red with redcurrant, chocolate, plum and hazelnut. Rather opulent on the nose. Full-bodied and very structured with chewy tannins that are intense and powerful. This needs time to come together and soften. 68% cabernet sauvignon and 32% merlot. Better after 2027.

Jeb Dunnuck :

The 2019 Le Petit Mouton De Mouton Rothschild is one heck of a second wine and has a rare level of depth and density. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot, it reveals a dense ruby/purple hue to go with textbook Pauillac notes of cedar pencil, smoke tobacco, spice box, blackcurrants, and graphite. Deep, rich, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, it's probably better than many vintages of the Grand Vin. I absolutely love its purity of fruit, balance, and structure. It needs a healthy decant if drinking any time soon and will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age, but it will have over two decades of longevity. Just don't tell yourself it's a second wine and you'll think you're drinking the Grand Vin.

Decanter:

Aromatic intensity on the nose, a dark fruit profile - blackcurrant, plum and black cherry. So smooth, structured with good poise on the palate. It's quite a lean, direct style, tightly knitted with black chocolate, mocha and liquorice edges as well a roasted spice element on the finish - intensity is on the aromatics rather than the fruit at this point which is quite dark. Lots of fine but quite grippy tannins provide a round and constructed frame.

The Wine Advocate:

The 2019 Le Petit Mouton is notably serious this year, offering up a rich bouquet of minty berries, cherries, licorice and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a generous core of fruit, youthfully chewy tannins and a long, sapid finish, it will reward a bit of bottle age.
