Descripción

Elaborado desde 1994, Les Pagodes de Cos es el segundo vino de Chateau Cos d'Estournel, una seductora, voluptuosa y más accesible introducción al estilo de la prestigiosa casa de Saint-Estèphe. Esta añada 2023 ya ha dejado muestra de su clase en las primeras catas en primeur donde ha convencido a la crítica por su equilibrio, su frescura con un toque de cierta salinidad característico de su terroir y un refinado y largo final especiado. 

La entrega de este vino está prevista entre los meses de septiembre de 2025 y marzo de 2026.

Viñedos en conversión a agricultura ecológica ubicados en la parte más alta de la propiedad, sobre una colina en el corazón del paisaje ondulante del Médoc norte.

Oceánico con inviernos menos ásperos y veranos menos intensos. la maduración se da lenta favoreciendo la complejidad y la frescura de las uvas.
Cosecha
Vendimia manual efectuada del 12 al 29 de septiembre. De todas las uvas cosechadas en esta campaña en el 'château', el 47% se emplearon en la elaboración de este vino.
Envejecimiento
Crianza en barricas de roble francés, el 20% de ellas nuevas.

James Suckling:

The polished and creamy texture here is extremely attractive, with blueberry, blackcurrant and crushed-stone aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied with linear tannins, showing polish and finesse. Creamy mouth-feel. Second wine of Cos. 12.9% alcohol. 51% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot, 2% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot.

Vinous:

The 2023 Les Pagodes de Cos makes a strong statement out of the gate. A blast of intense dark fruit, leather, spice, menthol, game, licorice, dried herbs and chocolate infuses the palate with remarkable textural intensity. Ample and resonant in the glass, with fabulous balance, Les Pagodes is exceptionally fine in 2023. The long, sustained finish is a thing of beauty.

Decanter:

Strongly aromatic on the nose, the Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot really making their mark despite comprising only 2% of the blend each. Vivid pink/purple in the glass, amazing vibrancy to the colour. Bright and buzzy, great energy, a little powdery with the tannins at the fore giving the structure but good length and balance and weight. Grippy, expansive and fresh, lots of life and cool crunchy blue and red fruit at the fore. Ends dry and powdery. Feels a little subdued and taken over by the structure right now but there’s clearly power on show. Could be lovely in time. Ageing 20% new oak.
