St Henri es una expresión tradicional del shiraz australiano. Es inusual entre los tintos de esta clase, ya que no utiliza roble nuevo. Penfolds lo comercializó por primera vez a principios de la década de 1950. Se trata de un estilo de vino que no ha sucumbido a los dictados de la moda o el comercio. St Henri es único.

Nariz
Notas de frutas negras y rojas. Un toque de regaliz, semillas de hinojo y menta.
Boca
Elegante y cremoso. Una sugerencia de fina salinidad se alinea con una acidez perfectamente integrada. Taninos finos.
Temperatura de servicio
Se recomienda servir a 16 ºC.

Viñedo y elaboración

Descripción
Viñedos situados en las regiones de McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Padthaway, Wrattonbully y The Peninsulas.
Clima
McLaren Vale y Barossa Valley registraron precipitaciones invernales muy por debajo de la media, mientras que los viñedos del sudeste se situaron por encima. Las temperaturas de septiembre fueron frescas y las precipitaciones escasas, lo que provocó algunas heladas aisladas. El verano fue caluroso en general, con altas temperaturas. El riego fue crucial para mantener las vides en buen estado. La proximidad del océano Antártico contribuyó a moderar las temperaturas en Wrattonbully y Padthaway, lo que permitió una cosecha de gran calidad, aunque con rendimientos inferiores a la media.
Envejecimiento
Crianza durante 12 meses en grandes cubas de roble.

Immediately spicy and complex, this has a rich blackberry and dark-plum nose, together with dark-chocolate and tarry, earthy elements. The palate has a very rich, fleshy feel with such ripe dark-plum, dark-chocolate, blackberry and mulberry flavors on offer. Generous, yet balanced. A South Australian blend of McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Padthaway, Wrattonbully and The Peninsulas. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

The St Henri Shiraz is often one of my favorite reds in the Penfolds Collection, due to the ability of the fruit to shine through the fine sheath of oak that encases it. At this stage, and I know you will hear this often, the wine still represents good value. The 2019 St Henri Shiraz is elegantly structured, with the 2019 vintage showing the warmth and intensity without overstepping balance or line. Texturally, this will only increase in its silky shape, which comes with the gentle suggestion to decant this if you insist on drinking it within five years from harvest (i.e., anytime from now to 2024). This 2019 is shaped by abundant red and purple fruit (and a splash of blue), charry spice and fine tannins. Gorgeous.
