Descripción
Pintas Character es el hermano menor de Pintas (uno de los vinos con más fama del Valle del Douro). Un "Field Blend" con viñas viejas de más de 30 variedades autóctonas, por mencionar algunas: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Baga, Sousão, Tinta Amarela, Rufete, Tinto Cão...Character hereda la complejidad de su hermano mayor pero a cambio tiene un perfil más vigoroso y seductor. Un envejecimiento ligeramente más corto y un menor porcentaje de madera nueva permiten que sus notas florales y frutales destaquen sobre el conjunto.

The 2018 Pintas Character is a field blend (over 30 grapes, but the majority are Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional) from old vines aged for 18 months in 20% new French oak. It comes in at 14.8% alcohol. As tends to be the case, this has some similarities—like approachability and good balance—with the Manoella Tinto this issue, but this adds more concentration and power. It seems more substantial and serious, showing more grip on the longer and more intense finish. I don't know that this will turn into anything more special in the cellar—probably not—but it should hold well for the rest of the decade, more or less. The tannins are not hard, so it drinks decently now. It will be better next fall.
From old vines in the Vale de Mendiz, above the Pinhão river, this wine has dark fruits that are laced with the freshness of acidity. There is a strong minerality here—a wine that bursts with richness and black-chocolate flavors. Drink the wine from 2023.
