From a classic vintage, the Feudi di San Gregorio 2016 Taurasi is a beautifully concentrated and shapely wine that is soft and generous in the right places but structured and firm in others. The wine offers a deeply layered bouquet with black cherry, plum and dried cassis. You will also encounter tarry smoke and campfire ash. This is a polished and nicely assembled expression of the mighty Aglianico grape. Production is about 60,000 bottles each vintage made.
A savory, meaty, full-bodied red with plenty of black cherry, fruit peel, sage and fresh tobacco leaf. Chewy, integrated tannins and black-tea notes on the finish. One of the best for a long time. Drink from 2021.
A very classic wine for Aglianico, Irpinia and Taurasi. Dense garnet in the glass with a restrained bouquet of geranium and dark rose, it develops cassis, cigar box and herbal touches enhanced by a Modica salt chocolate character. Careful handling and oak ageing in barrels for 18 months contribute to velvety tannins, ripe and polymerised, sustained by integrated acidity and supported by an incredibly flavoured savoury finish. The correspondence between nose and palate is precise. Despite not being a Riserva, in this vintage there is enough stuffing and balance for the long haul. Drinking Window 2022 - 2036.
