Descripción

Al igual que su viñedo de origen, el grand vin de Château Haut-Batailley está dominado por la Cabernet sauvignon, variedad que le aporta toda su complejidad y madurez de fruta negra. Completa el coupage la Merlot, y en esta añada un aporte de Petit verdot, para constituir un conjunto que en su cata en primeur ya hace gala de gran armonía, elegancia, una estructura tánica refinada que promete evolucionar con el tiempo, revelando más capas de complejidad y profundidad.

La entrega de este vino está prevista entre los meses de septiembre de 2025 y marzo de 2026.

Viñedos ubicados en el sur de Pauillac, lindando con la denominación de origen Saint Julien.

Compuesto por un capa profunda de gravas gruesas.
Clima
El ciclo correspondiente a la añada 2023 vino marcado por el tiempo cambiante requiriendo la rápida adaptación a éste de los viticultores a fin de proteger las viñas ante estas condiciones complejas e inestables. Y es que el invierno, si bien fue en líneas generales suave, también presentó episodios de sequía que luego dieron paso a las lluvias, con el consiguiente riesgo de plagas. Aún así, todas las variedades alcanzaron una maduración óptima, destacando la excepcional calidad de la Cabernet, que aún exhibiendo uvas más pequeñas vio acentuada su concentración.
Cosecha
Vendimia manual. Las primeras uvas comenzaron a recogerse el 14 de septiembre. La Merlot fue cosechada en 5 días, la Petit verdot en uno y la Cabernet sauvignon en siete, empezando el 25 de septiembre, dándose por terminada la campaña el 2 de octubre.
Envejecimiento
Crianza prevista de 16 meses en barricas de roble francés, el 65% nuevas.

Opinión de los críticos

James Suckling:

This shows structure and focus, with creamy, powdery tannins and a very pretty, silky texture. Medium to full body with a solid line of tannins running through the wine. Blackberries and currants with a hint of crushed stone. Better than 2022?

Falstaff :

Dark ruby, purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Fine fruity bouquet, ripe cher- ries, a hint of cloves, inviting bouquet. Juicy, dark berries, firm tannins, good com- plexity and freshness, mineral in the finish, delicately leafy aftertaste, will benefit from further ageing.

Vinous:

The 2023 Haut-Batailley is another impressive wine from this Chateau. There's plenty of the typical dark fruit and overall breadth that is such a signature, but the tannins show greater finesse than in some prior years—a very positive evolution that continues here. Black cherry, plum, lavender, cloves, leather and licorice are all beautifully amplified. The 2023 marks another major step forward for Haut-Batailley.

The 2023 Château Haut-Batailley brings a much more focused, serious style while still staying in the elegant, vibrant style of the vintage. Based on 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot resting in 65% new oak, this deep purple-hued effort has classic Cabernet darker, almost blue fruits, graphite, tobacco, and chalky earth-like nuances as well as medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It's balanced and has beautiful tannins, as well as outstanding length. Tasted twice.

The 2023 Haut-Batailley is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot that increasingly resembles its stablemate Lynch Bages in style. Offering up aromas of dark berries, plums, pencil shavings and creamy new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with plenty of generously extracted, youthfully chewy tannin and a long, lusty finish.
