"The Mancuso project, which was a joint venture between the Navascues and Carlos San Pedro of Rioja, is now 100% owned by the Navascues and the source of the grapes has changed. So, this 2015 Mas de Mancuso is a completely different animal to other Mancuso wines you might have encountered in the past as this is pure Garnacha from a vineyard in the village of Almonacid de la Sierra within the Cariñena appellation. The vines are located at some 660 meters altitude and were planted 45 years ago on stony clay and slate soils. It fermented in 1,500-liter stainless-steel vats with indigenous yeasts with manual pigeage and no remontage, a very soft extraction and matured in used French oak barrels. It has an amazing nose, very perfumed with flowers, juicy but vibrant, very much alive, incredibly fresh for a year like 2015. The palate revealed a very young wine with fine-grained tannins and superb balance that will ensure a long development in bottle. This is great Garnacha. 3,000 bottles were filled in May 2017."
