Sínodo was founded in 2014 by three friends who’d studied oenology together and all worked in different wineries before starting their new project. Raposeras is their 105-year-old vineyard of just 0.16ha, planted in 1916 by the great-grandfather of one of the team. It’s mainly a Tempranillo vineyard, with just five of the vines planted to Garnacha. It is made with the utmost care and attention to detail, which shows in the glass. Yolanda Ortiz de Arri: Ripe red fruit on the nose. A dense wine, with a longlingering, dusty finish. Sarah Jane Evans MW: A dark, brooding style of wine, all about graphite and liquorice, along with roasted coffee. Still a baby, but with a promise of great intensity. Pedro Ballesteros Torres MW: Distilled essence of Tempranillo, intensely concentrated. Sinewy, inky texture, with lots of rounded tannins. Made for the long run – can be left for at least five years, and will last much longer.
Drinking Window 2025 - 2033
My favorite of the five reds I tasted was the 2018 Sínodo Raposeras, which follows the path of the great 2016. This comes from a plot panted in 1916 by the grandfather of one of the members of the project. There are only 415 vines now that produced 582 bottles in 2018. So, chances of seeing this wine out there are quite slim unless you know the people personally. But the wine deserves accolades; it's harmonious and elegant and quite perfumed for Tempranillo. The palate is medium to full-bodied with very fine tannins, balanced and with a soft texture given the medium acidity. It was bottled in September 2019.
Just a teeny bit tighter and more backward than the 2019 release, reflecting the more Atlantic vintage, this is another superb Raposeras release from the engaging trio of Roberto Monforte, Gorka Etxebarria and Juan Antonio Blanco. Poised, refined and focused, with good underlying grip, black cherry and violet notes and scented French oak. 2025-35

Tercera añada probada y no falla.Un Rioja con mayúsculas
Un poco demasiado suave para mí
Best Raposeras ever
Tirada limitada de 794 botellas. Mejora mucho aireado, muy necesario. Poco tánico, afrutado, buen vino
Fruity, concentration and a promising future.
Decepcionante.
