Descripción

Los clanes de las tierras altas escocesas utilizaban un sistema llamado RunRig para distribuirse el terreno en una serie de propiedades dispersas, poniendo el valor en la asociación comunal y no en las granjas independientes. En este tinto, Shiraz y Viognier se complementan muy bien, entrelazando la fuerza y complejidad de estas parcelas consiguiendo una complejidad extraordinaria. Uno de los mejores vinos australianos de todos los tiempos, como demuestran los 100 puntos Parker logrados en sus añadas 2016 y 2010.

Nariz
Notas florales, fruta roja y negra, un agradable componente terroso, cereza, regaliz y cacao.
Boca
Paladar medio a intenso. Amable paso con estructura y profundidad. Frutas rojas, clavo y regaliz que se mezclan con especias dulces y canela. Denso, firme y potente. En la copa aparecen matices de piedra, anís y pimienta que se redondean en un largo y persistente final. Taninos amables que mantendrán el vino vivo por mucho tiempo y buen equilibrio de carga frutal.
Temperatura de servicio
Se recomienda servir entre 16 y 18 ºC.
Consumo
Hasta 2038 en óptimas condiciones de conservación.

Viñedo y elaboración

Descripción
Ensamblaje de seis viñedos distintos de las subzonas de Lyndoch, Rowland Flat, Moppa, Ebenezer, Light Pass y Greenock.
Clima
Los fuertes vientos que soplaron en la floración al principio del periodo vegetativo redujeron el número de bayas y racimos en muchos viñedos. El invierno y la primavera fueron secos, seguidos de diciembre y enero muy calurosos y secos. Aunque los rendimientos han sido reducidos, la calidad global ha dado lugar a vinos de gran color y textura que reflejan su origen.
Cosecha
Vendimia manual llevada a cabo del 10 de marzo al 3 de abril 2020.
Vinificación
Fermentación alcohólica en depósitos de acero inoxidable. Fermentación maloláctica en barrica y reposo en lías para conseguir textura y complejidad.
Envejecimiento
Crianza de 30 meses en barrica francesa, 50% de primer uso y el resto de segundo y tercer uso.

The Wine Advocate:

Tasting the RunRig beside the Descendant is always a wise move, in order to gain some contextual understanding of how they are similar and, perhaps more importantly, how they differ. This 2020 RunRig was sourced from six different vineyards across Barossa (in Lyndoch, Rowland Flat, Moppa, Ebenezer, Light Pass and Greenock) and includes a 2% "dosage" (as winemaker Ian Hongell described it) of Viognier. Matured for 30 months in a combination of new French oak (50%) and second and third fill barrels, the wine rests on its lees for that time. The lower percentage of Viognier here is a seductive and effective thing, adding just enough slick and polish to make this the sybaritic wine that it is, but little enough to allow the grunt, grit and muscle of the Shiraz from all those glorious locations to shine through. Despite the very long time in oak, the wine is balanced and excellent, big in almost every possible way but with an undeniable sense of class and length of flavor. Executed with detail and precision, this wine is clearly defined in its expression of house style.

This is so aromatic with flowers, orange blossom, and black berries with sliced mushrooms and earth. Surreal. Medium to full body, with bark and blackberry character. Some bramble berry, too. Chewy and delicious. Old vine uniqueness. Some grapes come from vines as old as 1858.

Wine Enthusiast:

Rich, evocative aromas of mulberry, blueberry, coffee bean and hot-cocoa mix lend approachability to what is otherwise a rich, dense wine, packed with flavor, but also with powerful, chalk dust tannins that need serious protein if opening now. Patience will be rewarded, however. Give this a few more years in bottle.
