Descripción

Tinto del Nuevo Mundo, concretamente de la D.O. Stellenbosch, en Sudáfrica. Ofrece una complejidad aromática que evoluciona en la copa, con gran  presencia de fruta y notas de vainilla y chocolate. Igualmente, aporta características del terruño tras un tiempo de guarda.

Color rojo púrpura brillante.
Nariz
Muy aromático, con notas de ciruelas, moras, toques de regaliz, nueces tostadas y vainilla en la nariz.
Boca
Paladar repleto de ciruelas, cerezas, higos negros, chocolate negro, moras y roble especiado. Los taninos son cremosos y están muy bien integrados, ofreciendo una acidez equilibrada y un final largo.
Temperatura de servicio
Se recomienda servir a 16 ºC.
Consumo
Listo para consumir en el momento de la compra, aunque se recomienda guardar hasta 15 años más, prometiendo un gran potencial de maduración en botella.
Maridaje
Se recomienda para acompañar platos picantes al estilo asiático, curris aromáticos, carne de venado, pescados y pato.

Clima
En esta añada los períodos más cálidos durante la última parte del invierno dieron como resultado una brotación, floración y cuajado de frutos desiguales. Los niveles de humedad en los suelos fueron satisfactorios durante toda la fase de crecimiento y maduración, y se notó muy poco estrés hídrico en las vides. Como resultado, se retrasó la cosecha.
Vinificación
Una vez en bodega, la fermentación se lleva a cabo en depósitos de hormigón abiertos a una temperatura de 28 ºC, donde el vino permanece con sus pieles durante tres días con remontados cada dos horas. Posterior maloláctica.
Envejecimiento
Crianza de 18 meses en barricas francesas de 225 litros, de las cuales un 80% son nuevas y el resto de segundo uso.

Opinión de los críticos

James Suckling:

Perfumed nose of dark cherries, mocha, sandalwood and baking spices. It’s full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Layered and textural with a focused and harmonious structure. Well-driven with a lively, long finish. Drink or hold.

Wine Enthusiast:

Winemaker Abrie Beeslaar shows the complexity and age potential of Pinotage in his wines. The Estate collection is proof of that. This vintage offers aromas of sweet spices and berries. It's full on the palate, with a good concentration of raspberries and red plums. A touch of licorice lingers on the finish. This is still young, but it's ready to drink now, or hold through 2035.

The Wine Advocate:

A delightful and juicy wine, the 2021 Pinotage offers a ripe and fleshy expression of black raspberry, spiced plums and dark cherry skin with elegant oak spices and dusty florals with a soft, lingering potpourri essence. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is fresh and red-fruited with succulent acidity and fine-grained tannins that lift the mid-palate while displaying plenty of toasted oak essence. This Pinotage is gorgeous as it offers layers of attractive fruit and oak before gliding to a graceful, food-friendly finish. While it's still primary, this will undoubtedly improve with additional bottle age. About 70,000 bottles were filled after the wine matured for a year and a half in 80% new French oak. Nicely done!
