San Cobate Verdejo 2019

The 2019 Verdejo is white from Rueda that was produced with grapes from 1.6 hectares of vines in the village of Nava del Rey (Valladolid) planted in 1997 on silt and sand soils at 770 meters above sea level. It fermented in barrel, where it matured with lees for 12 months, followed by a further 12 to 14 months in chestnut casks and kept for one more year in barrel before it's released. It has 13.4% alcohol and a pH of 3.17 with close to seven grams of acidity. It has a deep golden color and an open, expressive and oxidative nose. It's a white with a voluptuous and unctuous personality, quite different from the profile of the reds, a little à la Kistler. It has notes of honey and caramel, denoting some evolution, hints of cereals, dry straw and yellow rather than white fruit. I'd drink this sooner rather than later. 4,590 bottles and 200 magnums were filled in December 2021. This was first produced in 2017.
