The red from the zone of EL Galayo in Cebreros is the 2019 La Mira, from three small plots at 950 meters in altitude on slate soils. It fermented with 15% full clusters and indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, and the wine matured in a 3,000-liter oak vat and barrels for 14 months. I found marked character of the slate in an earthy and somewhat Priorat way, more Mediterranean, perhaps a little influence from the élevage in oak with some smoky and spicy notes. But the main indifference between the slate and granite to me is the texture of the tannins; they're more rugged and noticeable early on. This is a powerful year with concentration and clout that is going to require some more time in bottle. 7,500 bottles were filled in February 2021.
